Vascular Conditions
Learn more about conditions treated by vascular surgery.

Varicose Veins & Leg Ulcers
Twisted, enlarged veins—most often in the legs—can lead to swelling, discomfort, and skin damage. In more advanced cases, they result in painful leg ulcers.

Dialysis Access (Fistulas & Grafts)
For patients requiring regular dialysis, strong and reliable vascular access is essential. This is created through an arteriovenous (AV) fistula or a synthetic graft.

Treatment: Minimally invasive options such as laser ablation or sclerotherapy are used to close off damaged veins, while open surgery may be considered for more complex cases.
Treatment: Surgical creation or revision of AV fistulas and grafts, with options including endovascular interventions to maintain or restore function.
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
PAD is caused by narrowed arteries that reduce blood flow to the limbs, often resulting in leg pain, wounds that won’t heal, or in severe cases, risk of amputation.
Carotid Artery Disease
A buildup of plaque in the neck arteries can restrict blood flow to the brain, increasing the risk of stroke.
Treatment: Depending on the severity, treatment may involve endarterectomy (open surgery to remove plaque) or endovascular stenting to improve blood flow.
Aneurysm Repair
An aneurysm is a weakened area in the wall of an artery that bulges outward, often silently. If left untreated, it can rupture and become life-threatening.
Treatment: Most aneurysms are treated with EVAR (Endovascular Aneurysm Repair) using a stent graft placed via small groin incisions. For complex or ruptured aneurysms, open surgical repair may be necessary.
Vascular Trauma
Trauma to blood vessels—whether from accidents, surgery, or injury—can lead to internal bleeding or blocked circulation. Timely treatment is critical to prevent limb or organ damage.
Treatment: Urgent intervention may involve vascular clamping, suturing, or bypass grafting depending on injury severity. Endovascular techniques like covered stents are used when possible to control bleeding.
Treatment: Endovascular procedures such as angioplasty or stenting are typically used to restore blood flow. In advanced cases, open bypass surgery may be required.
